Basket Manipulations Full Day: 5½ - 6 hours

Baskets are perhaps one of the most popular designs in patchwork, and this class will give you a wonderful collection of basket patterns. In addition to six different basket variations, the cut-aways Linda has become so well-known for are perfect for another design, giving you a total of seven patterns in all. They can be used individually to create seven different quilts, or combined into a sampler quilt, as you choose.

Civil War Reproduction Quilt Full Day 5½ - 6 hours

This quilt is a half scale reproduction of a Civil War era quilt, combining a nine patch with a hand appliqued swag border.Done in half scale, the nine patch is a charming 2¼ inch block.This is lovely in reproduction fabrics, or contemporary, as you choose.

Flying Geese Fun! Full Day 5½ - 6 hours

This is the quilt that started it all! The revolutionary method used to create the flying geese creates cutaway units that can be used to make a bonus quilt. In the spirit of making use of every little bit of fabric so that nothing goes to waste, the techniques in this class make efficient use of both your time and your fabrics. Four Patch Scrap Quilts Full Day 5½ - 6 hours

A brand new Scrap Quilt Class offering that you are sure to have tons of fun with. Start with fabric selection, learning great tips on how to make scraps work well together. Then, see what fun you can have with the fourpatch. This isn't your run of the mill fourpatch either. The way it is constructed is like magic and the possible design arrangements are a real treat! See three different possible arrangements, plus, make a bonus quilt out of the cutaways!

Friends All Around Scrap Quilt Full Day 5½ - 6 hours

I am so excited about this quilt because the technique that I used to make the blocks is one of those bolts of lightning that came to me in the middle of the night! This technique allows you to create what looks like half-square triangles without ever having to make a triangle. I have never seen anything like this. It allows for better accuracy, and, provides you with my trademark cutaways that will be used to make a bonus quilt. In addition, the pattern has a center square that is perfect for optional signatures, making it a lovely choice for a friendship quilt. I have also developed a new way to do the Garden Maze setting which also allows for amazing accuracy. We will explore new methods for combining a wide variety of fabrics into a stunning scrap quilt. Even if you have done scrap quilts with me in the past, there are new tips for you to pick up that can be applied to future projects.

Hand Piecing 101: Little House on the Prairie Full Day 5½ - 6 hours

Start at the very beginning with Hand Piecing Basics in this class for all ages. Using "Quilting with Laura: Quilts Inspired by the Little House on the Prairie Series" as a workbook, students start with how to make hand piecing templates, move to marking and cutting fabric, and work their way through block construction. Corn and Beans is the pattern of the day. The text book contains 13 other patterns to grow with.

Proficiency: This class is for all who want to know how to hand piece. Children 8 - 14 may attend if accompanied by an adult. Perfect for a mother-child day out.

Hand Piecing: Civil War Style Half Day 3 hours

An 1864 Lady's Magazine told of having received a 'pleasant letter from a young lady of Rhode Island, who is forming a curious and valuable collection of autographs in an original and very womanly way: the design is to insert the names in a bedquilt.' The idea so intrigued readers that a few months later, by popular demand, the magazine offered the pattern and directions for constructing an English Paper Pieced Tumbling Block quilt. Made entirely by hand, small pieces of fabric are fit puzzle-fashion into an intriguing mosaic design.

This makes an ideal 'take-along'project to work on at meetings, Civil War Reenactments, or just in the evening when you would like some handwork to keep you busy. This program works well as a follow-up to the 'Quiltmaking in Civil War America' slide-lecture presentation.

This full day workshop starts with the how-to of Fabric Selection, continuing on with precision machine piecing techniques that result in cutaways that can cleverly be used to make a second quilt out of the leftovers. That's two quilts in one workshop! What a treat!

Geared with the beginner in mind, discover the joy of hand piecing. Learn how to make hand piecing templates, how to mark and cut fabric, and how to work your way through block construction.

Lincoln Logs & Tinker Toys Full Day 5½ - 6 hours

I call this a scrap quilt simply because of the wide variety of fabrics used, but just because it is a scrap quilt, it doesn't mean there isn't a plan! Students start with how to choose and combine fabrics, giving valuable fabric selection skills that can apply to your future quiltmaking. Even if you have done the fabric selection portion with me in past classes, this class features new techniques on how to decide just what fabric goes where to create a quilt that really sparkles.

Fine tune your piecing skills as we create variations on a traditional log cabin block that take this popular design a step beyond the ordinary. And because I can't help myself, we will work on two different design options, one being Lincoln Logs, and one being Tinker Toys (both shown here). You will get hooked on how much fun it is to create scrap quilts with strip piecing!

Nine Patch Manipulations Full Day 5½ - 6 hours

Perfect for community service projects. Strip piecing techniques transform the ever-popular nine patch into a variety of wonderful designs that will warm the heart and soul of the recipient. One pattern turns into five variations, and best of all, they create the cut-aways Linda has become so well-known for, perfect for three different bonus quilts. That's a total of eight quilts in all.

Patchwork Potpourri Full Day 5½ - 6 hours

Samplers no longer need be made up of same-size blocks. Play with the fun of puzzling different size blocks together in Patchwork Potpourri. An example can be seen on the cover of Linda's book Quilting with Laura: Patterns Inspired by the Little House on the Prairie Series. Students bring blocks of various sizes. Learn concepts of focal point, framing, setting segments, and sash and border proportions. Due to the nature of this class, class size is limited to 16.

Prairie Lilies Scrap Quilt Full Day: 6 hours

Joyous colors combine to create Prairie Lilies, constructed in my two for one technique. Piecing in this method creates cutaways that are ready to go into a bonus quilt, so you are actually making two quilts at the same time. Make use of every bit of fabric. It is such fun! Students start with how to choose and combine fabrics for a quilt, giving valuable fabric selection skills that can apply to your future quiltmaking. This is followed with my two-for-one piecing method, then adorn with applique, utilizing a very nifty stem technique. In addition to the Prairie Lilies quilt, students will also be making a bonus quilt out of the cutaways.

Prairie Sampler Two Day; 12 hours

Let Laura Ingalls Wilder be your inspiration in this extended class where we will adapt the patterns found in my book Quilting with Laura: Patterns Inspired by the Little House on the Prairie Series to machine piecing techniques, and arrange them in a sampler. It is more than a matter of just adding seam allowances to the templates. I used this as an opportunity to round up a wide range of machine piecing techniques that are much speedier than cutting individual pieces. This class covers how to choose and put fabrics together for a sampler quilt, machine piecing techniques for nine different patterns, and how to join together blocks that are different sizes when making a sampler quilt. This is two days of instruction, with time in between the classes to complete several of the blocks so you will be ready for the assembly process on day two.

Quilting 1-2-3: Scrap Quilts Full Day 5½ - 6 hours

An exciting new class, Quilting 1-2-3 starts with fabric selection for scrap quilts and builds from there. Learn how to achieve accurate and efficient piecing techniques that transform one quilt into a second pattern that looks totally different. And what would a Linda Halpin workshop be without a bonus quilt made with the cutaways! That is a total of three quilts in this fun filled workshop.

Seminole With A Twist Full Day 5½ - 6 hours

Seminole Patchwork takes on a whole new look when it works its way into traditional patchwork for stunning results. Patterns such as Whig's Defeat, formerly only made by expert quilters because of the multitude of tiny pieces needed to execute the patterns, are now within your reach. In concepts made popular in Linda's book Scrap Bonanza, students play with speed piecing methods to create wonderful scrap quilts PLUS a second totally different quilt out of the leftovers. Working out of Linda's newest book, Scrap Bonanza 2, students will get hands-on experience with fabric selection for scrap quilts as they make quilts in the captivating 2-for-1 concept. Choose which main quilt you would like to make, and pair it up with any one of seven possible bonus quilts made out of the cutaways resulting from the construction techniques used.
